Kia ora Liz, really enjoyed your story. So glad that you and your husband made time to visit/research our maunga (mountain) and to see/experience some of the (taonga) treasures that have been re-introduced back into it. I was bought up on the north side of the Maungatautari maunga and as you may guess, I am a local. When I was young, the fog use to cover the bottom half of the maunga which left the peak sticking up above the fog, hence the name Maungatautari (mountain suspended).

Nga mihi nui ki a korua (Great thanks to you both)

Many thanks for a fine description of the amazing work that has been done at Maungatautari. Anyone wanting to contribute to this excellent effort can do so via American Friends of Maungatautari, at 399 Valley Farm Road, Millbrook, NY 12545 which is, as the article notes an IRS registered 501 c 3 Foundation. Our Board includes Professor Kim Babbitt from the University of New hampshire and she, along with student interns, have spent many hours on the mountain each Summer. Indeed, in the very first year of this association, one of her students discovered a frog, previously thought to be extinct. Any contributions would be most gratefully received and, of course, acknowledged.

Terrace Downs Villas is a group of owners that offer discounted accommodation to the public via our web site www.terracedownsvillas.com. We can cater for groups of up to 20 so if you are getting a party together let me know. We can certainly help and offer you all a very good price.

Might see you on the Terrace Downs Golf Course one day!
